Goodness gracious last week was busy. Finished up the A-Z Challenge on Monday and plunged right into long hours at work, extra practicing for choir, and our first visitors over the weekend :) We dubbed it the Weekend of Lamp - we bought 6! Three we got at rummage sales for a total of $5. Win. The house looks much better all lit up. We also made quite a bit of progress on the guest bedroom, and I think the downstairs bathroom is 'finished.' Will have to post some pictures soon.
Also also, I'm working with a friend on another writing project which is seriously awesome. We've written a TON in the last couple days but still have a lot of work to go. Hoping it turns into something that can be shared :)
Anyway, just letting y'all know I'm not dead! Happy end of semester to those of you in school. Anyone got any good plans for summer?

Z is for Zigzags!
What a busy homemaking weekend in Chez Sweet! We have our first batch of visitors arriving Friday, so wanted to get some things done before they arrived.
Yesterday morning I learned how to use my sewing machine (a wonderful wedding present that I haven't had time to master yet). I have not yet mastered the zigzag stitch, but did make a sweet curtain for our laundry room. There's nothing like learning a new skill, and with the added bonus of having my first project turn out well, it was a pretty happy morning.
Today we tackled the painting of the guest bedroom. We still have one coat of paint for three of the walls, but the accent wall is done. After getting into everything we thought perhaps we should have saved that for last? Jury's out on that one.. But the room is almost done, and will be much more welcoming for our guests :) The zigzag here, of course, is the first pass you make with a paint roller.
All in all a fun, productive weekend.
(And the last post for A-Z! Hooray I made it and didn't miss a single one! :) :) )

Y is for Yay!
I started my April A-Z talking about things I enjoy, got a little gripey in the middle, and now I would like to reflect for a moment on things for which I am thankful. Some things in my life that make me say, "yay!" when I take a moment to think about them.
I am thankful for my husband and our beautiful home,
For family, friends and pleasant coworkers and acquaintances,
For students who teach me more than I teach them.
I am thankful to be physically able enough to explore mountains and oceans,
For my voice and living somewhere that allows me to use it,
For being sick once in a while because it reminds me just how much I appreciate those things.
I am thankful for all my past experiences, maybe even especially the bad ones,
For they continue to teach me so much.
For quiet Saturday mornings, having time to soak in the wonderful things in my life.
What are things that make you say, "Yay!"?

X is for eXploration!
I've managed to get a pretty nasty cold so in an effort to not expose you all to too much of my meds-induced lack of coherent'ness.. This week's theme for A-Z will be "short and, naturally, sweet."

Friend Alison sent me this. It is a way to explore the relative sizes of things in the universe (including dodo birds and giant earth worms!) and is really neat. Go! Explore!

W is for Woah!
Woah! This is my 800th post! A lot of that is now hidden, because at this point in my life the world does not need to read my angsty college writings. But still, it is neat to think that in the last 10'ish years I've written that many entries.
In honor of the milestone, a quality 90's "woah" ^_^

V is for Vittoria Ensemble

This is my choir, the Vittoria Ensemble. We are a chamber choir full of quite talented musicians and I am proud to be part of the group. I am often in awe of the talent of the people I sing with (and sometimes feel a bit inferior, to be truthful). Singing with the Ensemble is one of the things that has helped Colorado feel like home.
We have concerts in May so if you're in the Denver/Boulder/Fort Collins area, you should come see us!
